Material Handling & Conveyor Technology

Automated Feeding and Positioning

Optimize cycle times and throughput with secure, automated handling for your tubes and profiles. MSG Solutions develops custom feeding and positioning systems that not only move your components but can also measure them simultaneously. Gain full quality transparency and digital twins directly within the material flow – eliminating the need for separate inspection stations.

What Is Material Handling?

Definition: Moving, Positioning, Feeding

Material handling encompasses all processes necessary for the movement, positioning, and feeding of materials and products within a production process. This includes: material feeding and magazine storage, conveying and transporting within the line, positioning and aligning before processing stations, collecting, buffering, and sorting, as well as handover to subsequent processes or palletizing. Efficient handling reduces throughput times, minimizes the risk of expensive material damage, and increases the overall productivity of your system.

Our Handling Solutions in Detail

Material Feeding and Magazine Storage

We develop automatic feeding systems that remove pipes, profiles, bars, and semi-finished products from magazines, bundles, or pallets and feed them to the production line in a controlled manner. Depending on material and geometry, we use chain conveyors, roller conveyors, magnetic conveyors, or robotic grippers. The systems are designed for material-friendly handling – even with sensitive surfaces.

Conveyor Technology and Line Integration

Our conveyor technology solutions connect individual processing stations into continuous production lines. We design roller conveyors, chain conveyors, cross transports, and lifting devices – individually adapted to your layout, materials, and cycle times. The control system is networked with the overall system, creating a continuous, automatic material flow.

Robot-Assisted Handling

For complex handling tasks, we integrate industrial robots and cobots into your handling system. Robots handle loading and unloading of machines, positioning of workpieces, sorting by quality criteria, and palletizing of finished products. MSG Solutions programs the robots in-house and seamlessly coordinates the control with the overall system.

Integrated Measurement Technology in Handling

The unique selling point of MSG Solutions: we integrate our inline measurement technology directly into the handling process. While components are being transported or positioned, systems like GMS-E, GMS-P, or straightness measurement simultaneously capture geometry data. This saves separate inspection stations and delivers a digital twin of every part.

Why Handling Solutions from MSG Solutions?

Since 1998 – Hundreds of Handling Systems Worldwide

MSG Solutions has been developing individual handling solutions at its location in Schmallenberg, Sauerland, for over 25 years for steel and pipe production, the automotive industry, and construction supply. Our systems are in operation worldwide – from compact feeding systems to complete material flow solutions.

Tailor-Made, Modular, and Expandable

Every handling solution is individually designed for your materials, geometries, weights, and cycle times. Through modular design, systems can be expanded later with additional stations, higher degrees of automation, or additional measurement technology.

Handling – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is meant by material handling in production?

All processes in which materials and products are moved, positioned, fed, buffered, or palletized within the production process. MSG Solutions develops tailor-made automation solutions for this.

What materials can be processed with MSG handling solutions?

Pipes, profiles, bars, sheets, and semi-finished products made of steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, and other materials – regardless of shape, size, or weight.

What conveyor technologies does MSG Solutions use?

Depending on requirements: chain conveyors, roller conveyors, cross transports, lifting devices, magnetic conveyors, and robotic grippers. The technology is individually tailored to your material and process.

Can handling systems be integrated into existing production lines?

Yes, our solutions are compactly built with standardized interfaces. We handle the complete integration including control networking and commissioning.

Can MSG Solutions integrate measurement technology into handling systems?

Yes, this is our unique selling point. We integrate inline measuring systems (GMS-E, GMS-P, straightness measurement) directly into the handling process – for a digital twin without separate inspection stations.

What role do robots play in handling?

Industrial robots and cobots handle loading/unloading, positioning, sorting, and palletizing. MSG Solutions programs the robots in-house and integrates them seamlessly into the overall control.

How material-friendly are the handling systems?

Very material-friendly. We precisely tune grippers, supports, and speeds to your material surfaces. Sensors monitor the entire process and prevent damage.

How long does it take to realize a handling system?

Simple feeding systems in 2–3 months, complex material flow solutions with robotics in 4–8 months. Through pre-assembly at our facility in Schmallenberg, we minimize on-site commissioning time.
